Cardiovascular Surgery
Clinical Services/Features
In October 2009, since Dr. Shimokawa was appointed as department head (chief professor) from the Sakakibara Heart Institute (Fuchu City, Tokyo), Cardiovascular Surgery began providing clinical services under the new system. Many cases which are highly urgent due to disease characteristics. To deal with them, we accept patients 24 hours a day and perform emergency surgeries.
In addition, we are currently in a very favorable environment with support from Cardiology, Pediatrics, Radiology, and Anesthesiology as well as other facilities such as the Kidney Center and Emergency Medical Care Center. Capitalizing on this support, we strive to propose and provide a variety of treatments to patients. With the cooperation of relevant departments, we specifically devise appropriate treatments for patients who are elderly or have complications such as renal failure or chronic lung disease.
Our specific areas of expertise include coronary artery bypass surgery, surgical treatment for severe heart failure, valvular heart disease surgery to preserve the patient’s valves, and surgery for aortic diseases (aortic dissection and aortic aneurysm), the incidence of which has increased in recent years.
