Cardiology specializes in cardiovascular diseases in the cardiovascular field. This field covers many diseases, including coronary artery diseases such as angina and myocardial infarction, arteriosclerosis, various arrhythmias, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, hypertension, aortic disease, and peripheral artery disease. Cardiology is based in the Cardiovascular Center ward, which allows for advanced intensive management. Cardiology provides a 24-hour response to emergencies such as acute myocardial infarction, acute aortic dissection, and acute heart failure.
Our specialties include percutaneous coronary intervention, catheterization for valvular heart disease, and minimally invasive treatment of arrhythmia and heart failure.
In FY 2022, the department performed percutaneous coronary intervention in 405 cases, peripheral vascular intervention in 64, pacemaker/implantable cardioverter defibrillator/cardiac resynchronization therapy in a total of 106, and catheter ablation mainly for atrial fibrillation in 70. In 2022, we performed transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in 208 cases. The procedure involves implanting an artificial valve using a catheter. This is the 2nd highest number of cases in Tokyo and one of the highest in Japan. In April 2018, we started percutaneous mitral valve repair (MitraClip) and treatment using a circulatory support pump catheter (IMPELLA) as a new catheter treatment. In 2022, we performed repair using MitraClip in 40 cases (the 2nd highest number in Tokyo) and treatment using IMPELLA in 16. We will continue to provide the latest treatment for heart failure.
Outpatient services are provided by 13 doctors, including 2 professors, 2 associate professors and 2 senior lecturers, every day from Monday to Friday (on Saturday, only a temporary outpatient clinic is open).
In addition, cardiac rehabilitation for outpatients is provided daily from Monday to Saturday (closed on Saturday afternoon).
Our outpatient services are by appointment only, but treatment without appointment is provided as necessary (a referral letter is needed). If you are visiting the department for the first time, you can bring data such as electrocardiograms, X-rays, and blood test results for reference in addition to a referral letter from your primary care physician. You can also bring a list of your regular medications, such as a medication record book.
